Technical Business Consultant

Ambiata is a Sydney-based software start-up company that is looking for an experienced technical business consultant to complement our sales team in a pre-sales capacity.

The teams at Ambiata have been very focused on building and delivering solutions and products, with a focus on ensuring that the needs of an organisations are met and that value is added. We are looking for someone who wants to be a part of our team, and work with us to further bolster the way in which we bridge the gap between business problems and the technology we can deliver to solve them.

Simply put, without this role, we will be unable to scale beyond being a technology company that is waiting for an organisation to tell us how and why they want to use our software.

As a team, we started small, but over the last year we have grown rapidly. We are beyond the point where we have sufficient time to ensure all the stakeholders are met and each of their issues addressed. We are beyond the point where an organisation’s needs can be met by our delivery team  moonlighting as consultants. We are beyond the point where we can be  effective without help.

With this in mind, we want someone who excels at listening to, educating and helping organisations so that we can continue to excel at building software and delivering success to our customers.

What are we looking for?

You will need to be a very presentable person who is confident and experienced at interacting with senior executive, business and technical stakeholders within an organisation. In particular you are able to build relationships that inspire trust and confidence in Ambiata.

You will be responsible for meeting with organisations whom are Ambiata customers, or customer prospects, with the explicit goal of demonstrating and educating how one or more of their problems can be solved, or is solved, by an Ambiata-based soluion.

Externally, you will be working closely with stakeholders at all levels of an organisation, determining the key pain points and problems as well as goals and inititatives they have set. Every organisation will be different and you will be able to get to the heart of a given organisation’s needs and requirements, both through interviewing them, as well as by conducting your own research. You will know their business, and its problems, better than they do, and be able to represent that in complex data science and machine learning terms. More so, you will be skilled at defining and communicating an Ambiata-based solution in a language familiar to the organisation/business, in addition to crafting high quality reports and presentations that position Ambiata strategically.

Day-to-day you will work very closely with our sales team as ultimately this role is a pre-sales function. Contributing to the process of selling an Ambiata solution is your primary goal, and tailoring that to an organisation will be where we want you to add value. Additionally, because you will be one of a select few with the opportunity to work at the cold-face with customers and prospects, we believe you will also be in a unique position to offer feedback to our technology and product teams on feature gaps that are potentially obstacles to deal closure.

Finally, whilst you may some times be “consulting” as part of a paid deliverable for extended period of times (paid pre-sales), you are very interested in consulting in the context of a sales activity for specific products and technologies. It is expected that you would contribute significantly to the overall goals of the sales team, and build out significant consulting IP and collateral that can be leveraged to scale Ambiata sales over time.

Required skills and experience

  • Background in advanced analyitcs and a high level understanding of a range of analytical techniques
  • 3-5 years of professional consulting experience in either analytics, marketing analytics, actuarial or pricing
  • Very strong written communication skills
  • Excellent verbal communicator, proven experience in managing senior executive stakeholders
  • Strategic thinker, able to see an opportunity within the client’s business and bridge this gap with the available capabilities
